AdvancedSampler significantly speeds up the generation of low-res proxy (sample) images. By using the file system hook, AdvancedSampler does not waste processor time for searching high-resolution images. Do not uninstall the old version of AdvancedSampler. Simply run the installer of the newer version. For downgrading to an older version of AdvancedSampler, do not uninstall the new version. Simply run the installer of the older version. The configuration information of AdvancedSampler 4.0 and 4.1 is mutually compatible. The AdvancedSampler 4.0 license code is also valid for AdvancedSampler 4.1.

 
You can try a fully functional version of AdvancedSampler 4.1 on both, a PC with an existing AdvancedSampler installation and on a PC without an existing AdvancedSampler 4.0 installation for 30 days without a license code.
